Frequently Asked Questions

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on promoting health and well-being by engaging in occupations (any activity that occupies your time). Occupational therapists work with people to build their skills and ability to engage in meaningful activities. This can include taking care of oneself (and others), working, studying, volunteering, and participating in hobbies, interests, and social events.

Occupational therapy helps you do the things you need or want to do!

Does 'occupation' mean you help with employment?

Sometimes. The word ‘occupation’ refers to any meaningful activity that you want or need to do. If returning or maintaining employment is a goal or important to you, then we can work on this together. This is not the same as an employment or job agency.

How much does it cost?

I charge the standard NDIS rate for occupational therapy services ($193.99 per hour). There is no out of pocket cost if you are using NDIS funding.

Can I use NDIS funding?

Yes. I see self-managed and plan-managed NDIS clients. I can not accept NDIA-managed clients.

How long do sessions go for?

Sessions typically run for one hour but can range from 45 minutes - 90 minutes depending on client needs. Sessions involving standardised assessments may take 1 - 2 hours.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No. You can be referred by a support coordinator or other health professional but don't need a referral.

What should I expect from a first appointment?

We meet at a location of your choice, such as your home or a community setting. It's helpful to email or bring a copy of your NDIS plan or any existing reports.

We then discuss your strengths, support needs, goals, and any barriers that are making it difficult to achieve those goals. This can include planning any required assessments and observing how you complete your daily activities related to your goals such as:

  • Self-care tasks like getting dressed, showering, sleeping, eating

  • Household tasks like cooking, laundry, cleaning

  • Self-management tasks like grocery shopping, paying bills, going to appointments

  • Taking public transport or accessing the community

  • Working / Volunteering / Studying

  • Participating in social activities

  • Any activity of your choosing (your imagination is the limit!)

Can I use Medicare?

I can accept Medicare referrals from a GP for a chronic health management plan only. I can not accept referrals for mental health care plans.

Do you travel to clients?

Yes. I am a mobile therapist and meet clients in their home and local community. I do not have a clinic or office space.
